SUMERU

A band known for their passionately fierce and ear crushing live shows, Sumeru’s onstage energy is exerted with an almost fanatical dedication that it verges on a cult-like rite of sonic exorcism and visceral upheaval. Add in the long-crafted musicianship of each member of this Sydney 5 piece, their ability to peel subconscious layers off of their audiences was apparent since their inception in 2009.

Having shared the stage with foreign imports and domestic legends such YOB, Church of Misery, Torche, Nick Oliveri (back up band & support), Windhand, Nails, Blood Duster, Beastwars, IEXIST and Lo!, Sumeru now stand firmly grounded in the Australian heavy music underground as a defining force of pure riff fury and indomitable low-end groove.

2022 marks 10 years at the fray for one of Australia's most envoking heavy acts.

SUMERU - Embrace The Cold (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

The second single from Sumeru's sophomore full length, 'SUMMON DESTROYER', out now through Wormhole Death/Aural Music (CD/Digital), Mallevs Records & Medusa Crush Recordings (Tape), Brilliant Emperor & Hobo Wolfman Records (12" Vinyl). “An evolution of descent for Sumeru into much darker and unholy territory, ‘Summon Destroyer’ sees a turning away from the light of their well-known craftings of bluesy riff-sick grooves, and a return to more blackened doom and deathly roots. Evermore crushing than previous offerings, Sumeru’s next level of newly discovered ferocity is backed by a lyrical spirituality that seeks to take listeners minds beyond any self-imposed jurisdictions they might impose on themselves. And if their patient beginnings and ability to constantly push themselves into new territory showed Sumeru’s maturity, ‘Summon Destroyer’ highlights a musicianship full of integrity and an ability to produce an album free from the pretense of the manufactured modern day. This is live and real sound, there is no facade here.” Wormhole Death Records & Aural Music (Digital/CD) http://www.wormholedeath.com/ http://www.auralwebstore.com/ Medusa Crush Records (Tape) https://medusacrushrecordings.bandcam... Sumeru - Holy Lands (2014) (Full Album)

Sumeru - Holy Lands (2014) (Full Album)

Sumeru's style of Sludge/Stoner Metal is reminiscent of the legendary NOLA Sludge/Stoner Metal scene. Matt's vocals have a distinct Phil Anselmo vibe while the guitars are heavily influenced by the legendary riffsters from the NOLA Swamps. Holy Lands is one hard rocking party full of great riffs and grooves to chew on. Holy Lands is 38 minutes of finely tuned Sludge/Stoner Metal that will appeal to all fans of Southern/Sludge Metal. Though these guys are from Australia. Great album. Church of Misery guitars twisting over a rumbling Down rhythm. Taking a more ‘stoned out’ approach than some of their previous projects, Sumeru takes the pure brutality of the Australian hardcore metal scene and put it in a hot box with stoner rock bands like Clutch, Kyuss, and Fu Manchu. The result being something like an Aussie Church of Misery that features a series of thick bluesy jams that ooze with power, drip with juicy guitar solos and smell like something you wouldn’t smoke after dinner at your mum’s house. The title track serves as the perfect sample of Sumeru’s sound, experience and dynamism. The low end slams your ears like a clap of thunder and gives way to a head banging, foot stomping groove complete with commanding vocals and blistering guitar solos that give the impression that these guys could topple mountains with their sound alone. Australian heavy stoner metal band Sumeru deliver a hell of a kick to the head of unsuspecting listeners. As a bonus it sounds like Tom Waits backed by Down......Brilliant! Absolutely incredible southern/groove metal with a unique sound and a crushing atmosphere. Every song on this album gives you something new to bang your head and lose your shit to. It plays out like an epic war-cry to the Sludge/Stoner Metal world where the weapon of choice is the deadly destructive riffs that Sumeru abandon all hope with. It can be very bleak at times but you can't deny how powerfully loud it all becomes. 1. Om Tathagata 2. Holy Lands 3. Lion Rider 4. Beyond The Skull 5. All I Am 6. Keepers 7.
