From the deadly corners of the mythical triangle that is Australia’s Gold Coast, Tweed Coast and Northern Rivers hails a ferocious five-headed beast: the mighty HAMMERS.
A collision of vision between HAMMERS conceptualist and Lismore-born banshee Leigh Dowling (vocals), the group’s signature sound is minced through the sausage maker that is the prolific songwriting engine of Lucas Stone (vocals/guitar), proudly born and raised in the steel city of Wollongong. From the ashes of a handful of Gold Coast renowned bands (HELM, Tension, A Delayed Reaction, Chilblain) along with Dowling and Stone, we see the lineup rounded out by a coupla tickets so golden they’d make Willy Wonka cry in drummer Ryan Lucas, guitarist/vocalist Dario Lagana and bassist Rick Trewavas.
HAMMERS have managed to transcend the limits of sub-genre pigeon-holing throughout the journey of constructing and releasing their first two EPs, Homeblokes and Kicking Goals, to finally land at their 2026 debut full length offering, Death Wobbles (Summerland Records), described by Everblack Media as "world-class songs, delivered with world-class conviction, from a group of world-class legends that have earned their place".
In the best way possible, this band exudes what being Australian is all about, all while serving up hot slabs of everything you love about alternative heavy rock, post-hardcore, nu-metal, metal, punk and straight up rock, with their maiden LP landing airplay on Double J’s Short.Fast.Loud, rotation on Rebel FM and critical acclaim upon release.
Their live shows come at you like a rhino on the piss, and the group have a reputation for converting everyone in the building into a HAMMERS disciple for life, previously sharing stages with everyone from He Is Legend (USA) through to COG, The Butterfly Effect and countless others.
If you like riffs, hooks, bratty screams and neck-wrecking grooves all gift-wrapped in a message filled with enough substance to incite community change: HAMMERS are your band.
Immediate, familiar notes of modern contemporaries such as Every Time I Die, Stray From the Path, Poison the Well, Better Lovers, He Is Legend and Alexisonfire will come to mind at first listen. Hearing them tangled in the roots of a quicksand like mud, emanating nods to greats such as Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Helmet, Rage Against the Machine, Meshuggah, Deftones and Limp Bizkit, results in a sound as refreshing as it is genuine and comforting.
Authentically Australian and so comfortably solitary in their space, HAMMERS might make you work your way through the door; but once you’re inside you will never leave.
"These guys just keep growing stronger as a live monster, and every show is more energetic and pumping than the last."
